Automation and Efficiency

Automation and Efficiency

I walk into an unusual number of small businesses that are in the business of making other people or companies more efficient, which themselves make a horrible mess of creating efficient systems internally. Much of the value that these organizations offer to business partners or customers lies in somehow automating or outsourcing other routine functions, so it's clear that, at least conceptually, they understand the idea. But instead of looking for similar ways in which they could themselves automate internal systems, they get so focused on delivering their own product that they forget the first principles.

It's important to look outside the scope of your own expertise and look at what other businesses can offer in terms of automating your processes and making them more efficient. This example of automating lead engagements is just one opportunity. Everything from accounting to packaging to delivery systems are open to improvement.
