Interviewed last week after the launch of his new venture, co-founder Allan Margate admits LeadVine was born out of a very simple need shared by all bootstrappers and indeed all businesses starting out.
"I had the idea back in about 2001 and 2002," he said.
At that time, Margate and a partner had left a large accounting firm to start a small consulting business of their own.
They soon, however, as most new entrepreneurs do, discovered that running their business and providing an excellent service was only part of the equation. They needed customers too.
That need was filled unexpectedly by a friend who regularly seemed to run into potential clients in need of their services and was eventually paid fees for referring them on.
"Everyday ordinary people come across sales leads that mean nothing to them," Margate said. It is upon this basic idea that LeadVine is based.
