Bootstrapping your religious group

So to review, while it's certainly not a small business, a church or other religious group can take some cues from the bootstrap approach.
In particular, as venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki suggests, it can be important in the process of deciding what is important and what is not. He explains:
Bootstrappers pick their battles. They don't fight on all fronts because they cannot afford to fight on all fronts. If you were starting a new church, do you really need the $100,000 multimedia audio visual system? Or just a great message from the pulpit?
Here again are some suggestions on how a bootstrapping approach for starting your church or other religious group can not only cut costs but also establish a process to create and sustain your organization.
• Use new technology options like MeetUp or Yahoo! Groups to gather like-minded folks in your community-Even if you already have a core group to begin with, locating others can offer new resources to help your organization grow.
• Use blogging and any other low cost communications technology you can find to stay in touch-Yahoo! and MSN Groups are also options here, but the idea is to create a system that not only keeps members informed at a low cost but also helps other potential members and friends in the community learn about you.
• Use PayPal, Print on demand and any other options you can think of to gain donations and run fundraisers-The suggestions in this post are just a starting point and you should definitely always be on the lookout for other opportunities and options.
• Use print on demand technology to create individualized music and liturgy resources-It can also be used to create and offer to the public music or other recorded messages associated with your religious group, a possible option for fundraisers
or just spreading the word. For more on bootstrapping the startup of your religious group check out the post from Agile Ministries on "Bootstrapping Your Church Growth"
