So how about you?
What's your purple cow?
There may be no better way to develop a unique brand than to take one or more of your personal passions, political or otherwise, and turn them into a remarkable identity for your product or business just like Blackney and Kraus did.
In fact, starting with a personal passion, something unique to you and that you believe in, also cuts to the heart of marketing guru Seth Godin's advice to find a small group of people who care (in this case just one person-you) and build your customer base from there.
I've jotted down a couple of personal passions which I hope to use as "streams" in a new social blogging network experiment (more on this later). They include:
1. alternative energy
2. blues music (I'm not sure this one will work. Read Godin's thoughts on the blues otaku)
3. libertarian politics
4. citizen journalism
5. coffee and coffee related business
6. independent film and film history
7. new urbanism
8. bootstrap entrepreneurism (Oooops! This one's already taken!)
Why not come up with your own list of passions.
First, read the previous series on branding beginning here.
Then share your own ideas either in the comment section below or on your blog, if you have one, with a link back to this post.
Drop me an e-mail letting me know about it and I'll provide a reciprocal link in a future post.
Feel free to explain how any of those passions might be developed into a bootstrapped enterprise someday and be sure to get back in touch with me in the future to share any news of your success.
