In the end, Blackney strikes a tone somewhere between controversial conservative shock columnist Ann Coulter and Wonkette emeritus and political gossip Diva Ana Marie Cox but manages to be somehow both more mainstream and more palatable than both.

Her passion for politics began early.

"As a young girl, I went to Washington, DC on an honors student trip. Newt Gingrich was my Congressman and I still remember him coming out while our group photograph was taken on the Capitol steps. After that trip, politics was completely in my blood," Blackney said in a recent e-mail interview while traveling to promote her new book Sex, Lies & Politricks.
