New bootstrap experiment launched
Filed in archive How-to by Shawn Hessinger on July 10, 2006

Borrowing from a comment noted earlier by Feedburner CEO Dick Costolo on a Venture Voice podcast, we will be using this blog and a parallel site to launch a bootstrapping enterprise using only the blogs themselves at first to spread the word.
Here's the proposition:
Launch a new virtual independent music distribution network allowing artists and producers not affiliated with major record labels to directly access fans of independent music for a percentage of the sales revenue generated.
Our customers will obviously be the fans who purchase music and other merchandise
through the network and the musicians and producers themselves who we help to access a larger centralized audience than they might have the opportunity to market to individually. There will be a little viral marketing involved here as well. Hopefully artists will spread information about the central network to other artists who will then seek to participate and to fans who will add to the overall traffic for everyone.
To aid in this effort, feel free to e-mail this post to any musicians with independently produced recordings or merchandise you might know and we will see if we can get something going.
Check out the new site we've created for the network tentatively called IndieTune. There will be periodic updates here at Bootstrapme.com and a link installed under recommended sites for you to check on our progress more regularly.
Our first step will simply be to collect enough participating artists to make the project viable, but there is no up front cost to them. Any interested artists should contact us here.
That's about it and we will hope for the best on this new endeavor.
