The art of getting started

The Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu said "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

For all business, getting started is the hard part, but for bootstrappers there is no way to make excuses that you're waiting for investors or banks or even completion of a business plan to take that first step. (More on this in the next post.)

That's why I was very appreciative to receive a copy of Guy Kawasaki's The Art of the Start as a Christmas gift this year.

The book is subtitled The Time-Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything and starting things has been much on my mind of late.

Those thoughts revolve not just around the n10ah Online Music Network but also a project at Blogtronix that may be taking more shape in the next week and a third project that you may be hearing more about in the early months of 2007.

I haven't cracked Guy's book yet, but his blog has often been an inspiration and I'll probably post some relevant points as I leaf through the first couple of chapters.

Getting started is definitely the hard part but I believe from my first start-up this year that bootstrappers have an easier time beginning the journey.

I have already read the book and it gave me a lot of pleasant moments. Of course you have a lot to learn from, but it must be applied to your own circumstances of life. Otherwise it the solutions there may bring sadness to you. Keep it in mind!
